This seasoned soil fertility consultant will present an overview of soil fertility element balancing as a foundation for soil health coupled with modern, carbon-based fertility concerns and inputs. Gain a basic understanding of Albrecht-method fertility management as well as supplements and options. Learn that without balanced soil minerals the soil cannot breathe enough for carbon-based fertility and soil life to properly do its job.

Joel Simmons, founder and director of EarthWorks, holds a master’s degree in agricultural education/horticulture from Penn State University. He is a former Penn State County Extension agent whose special areas of interest included turf and ornamentals. In 1996 he started teaching the second year soils classes at Rutgers University’s Golf Course Management Program where he remained for close to 10 years. Currently he teaches Soil First Academy seminars — a GCSAA accredited soils program — all across North America. He consults widely on soil fertility, particularly as it applies to turf.

Recorded at the 2014 Acres U.S.A. Conference, Columbus, Ohio, Thursday, December 4, 2014.
