Acres U.S.A. is inviting you to a new international book launch on Oct. 27 at 4 pm MT/Oct. 28 at 9 am AEDT (Australian Eastern) for Acres U.S.A. author and waste reuse expert Gerry Gillespie (60 minutes).
Gerry is an Australian known around the world for helping communities connect their organic waste products to industry and agriculture, and is the author of our book, The Waste Between Our Ears.
The book documents real-world examples of how population centers can convert their landfills into profit centers, and help their local food growers regenerate their land. It should be a special evening to celebrate life and discuss the power of humans to think differently and restore our land, while we launch a book.

David Hardwick – Chair – Australia
David is an Agricultural Ecologist, who runs extension workshops and webinars for farmers, Landcare groups and gardeners throughout Australia and overseas. Jackie French – Author and Gardener – Australia
Jackie French AM is an Australian author, historian and ecologist. She was named as the 2014–15 Australian Children’ Laureate; and 2015 Senior Australian of the Year. Some of Jackie’s books have sold millions of copies and won over 60 awards in Australia and internationally. She has worked with Gerry on the City to Soil program. Ryan Slabaugh – Acres U.S.A. Magazine – USA

Max Purnell – Farmer – New Zealand
Max and his family have operated dairy farms in New Zealand for generations. His farm in Waitakaruru is close to the city of Thames. His experience in farming works hand in hand with a strong interest in protecting water catchments and fisheries. He operates in an advisory capacity in many agricultural spheres. He has spoken at events in NZ and other countries with Gerry.
Dr. Sara Beavis – ANU Senior Research Fellow – Australia
Sara has been involved with Gerry Gillespie’s work for almost 20 years. She is a Senior Lecturer at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University. She conducted research for the City to Soil program in 2003 and has subsequently been involved in many projects involving the use of composts and inoculants.
Eric Lombardi – Eco Cycle – USA
Eric was a founding member of Eco-Cycle in Boulder Colorado: http://ecocycle.org. He was a founding member with Gerry of the Zero Waste International Alliance. A renowned public speaker and authority on recycling in many countries around the world, he now concentrates his efforts on consultancy to assist the development of new recycling programs.
Mal Williams – Zero Waste International Trust – Wales
Mal has been involved in recycling in Wales and the UK for more than 30 years. He has been involved in policy and programs around recycling throughout the UK and Europe. He established both the Zero Waste International Alliance and the Zero Waste International Trust in 2003 and has been fundamental to the development of effective recycling programs in Wales which has led to Wales becoming one of the best recycling communities in the world. He has worked with Gerry since 1997.
Fiona Armstrong – Climate & Health Alliance – Australia
Fiona is Executive Director of the Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA) which is a coalition of health care professionals and stakeholders who work together to see the threat to human health through climate change and ecological degradation addressed through prompt policy action. Membership of CAHA includes organisations and health professionals from across the health sector as well as care service providers, research and academic institutions and health consumers.
Martin Royds – Landcare farmer – Australia
Martin is well known in the Southern Tablelands area of NSW as a leading land holder, farmer, educator, researcher and soils specialist. His leadership role in Landcare has now expanded to an additional role as Farm Manager at Muloon Creek Natural Farms, a non-profit education and demonstration centre established by the late Tony Coote and his family to provide and educational centre for biological farming processes.
Richard Dennis, Chief Economist – The Australia Institute (TAI)
Richard is the Chief Economist at TAI, which is one of Australia’s most influential public policy think tanks. It conducts original research that contributes to a more just, sustainable and peaceful society. Based in Canberra, it conducts research on a broad range of economic, social, transparency and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.
Gerry Gillespie – Author – “The Waste Between Our Ears”
Gerry has been involved in the recovery of organic materials and their reuse in soils for 30 years both in Australia and overseas, including roles in New Zealand and consultancy work in Egypt, China, Scotland, India, Wales, France, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and the US. With an emphasis on community engagement, he developed the City to Soil collection program and helped refine an inoculant-based, odour-free, no-turn compost process based on the work of M. E. Bruce and Sir Albert Howard.
