PHOTOS: Day 2 of the 2022 On-Farm Intensive

We recently returned from beautiful Lone Rock, Wisconsin, where the 2022 On-Farm Intensive with Zimmer Ag event took place on Gary Zimmer’s Otter Creek Organic Farm and Twin Creeks Farm.

The two-day event featured workshops both inside and out in the fields with expert speakers including Gary Zimmer, Leilani Zimmer Durand, Patrick Michaels, Karl Dallefeld and David Knaus. Topics ranged from the principles of biological farming to cover crops, perennial crops, carbon-smart farming, economics of ecological farming, and more!

Day 2 – Getting Started

Day 2 got off to an early start, but that’s rarely a problem for farmers! Attendees gathered at the barn for a quick talk from Gary, before heading off to one of the fields at Otter Creek Organic Farm.

Field Trip – Otter Creek Organic Farm

Morning fog still lingered in the field as 2022 On-Farm Intensive attendees made their way to Gary Zimmer’s Otter Creek Organic Farm near Lone Rock, Wisconsin. Gary discussed the state of the field, his current and future plans for it, and tactics for transitioning to biological agriculture systems.

After returning to Twin Creeks Farm, Gary Zimmer showed the 2022 On-Farm Intensive attendees some of the equipment he uses on his farms.

In the Classroom – Soil Testing

After plenty of fresh air, and when the coolness of the morning was at last burned away from by the sun, the On-Farm Intensive attendees returned to the barn for more information on soil testing. For these sessions, Gary Zimmer was joined by David Knaus, a 2022 Healthy Soil Summit speaker and founder of Apical Crop Science LLC, a Portland, Oregon, area ag-tech company that leverages modern laboratory analytics, online data science and complex organic crop inputs.
