Remembering Athena Kreymer-Tainio

We are saddened to acknowledge the passing of Athena “Teena” Kreymer-Tainio, author of Farming in the Presence of Nature. Teena has been a member of the Acres U.S.A. community since the very beginning, both as an author and grower. Our condolences go out to her family and all those whose lives she has touched through her work.

Athena Kreymer-Tainio, 1957-2022

Teena’s book, Farming in the Presence of Nature, was a journey that illuminates the diverse wonders of the building blocks of life and gain a new appreciation for the inspiring and powerful dynamics of life on our planet, our farms, with Mother Earth herself.

Perhaps nothing can sum up the wonderful and poetic view Teena brought to agriculture so much as this passage she wrote:

“This is my invitation to you — whether you farm, garden, grow tomatoes on your deck, or an African violet on your windowsill — to sit and have a go at fitting a piece or two into this great puzzle that is our world, and watch with me as a grand and beautiful picture unfolds, of the interconnectedness of all things.”
