Virginia Farm Wins Education Grant!

We are pleased to announce that Acres U.S.A. community member Forgotten Farms in Floyd County, Virginia, was awarded in April a $3,000 dollar grant from the Bessie Minor Foundation, which is owned and operated by Swift Communications, the parent company of Acres U.S.A. The nonprofit’s mission is to help achieve literacy and learning goals in the communities in which Swift operations work in.

Forgotten Farms will use the grant funds for a hands-on soil literacy curriculum for children, parents and educators alike. This program will be replicated for farm field trips to the Forgotten Farms Network and can be customized for other farms outside their network as well. Funds will cover curriculum development expenses including the materials  that will be developed for the program. You can learn more about their programming here: https://www.facebook.com/TheForgottenFarms/.

The Bessie Minor grants are given away on an annual basis, and the next grant cycle will open on Jan 1, 2022. To learn more about the Bessie Minor Foundation, visit https://bessieminorswift.org/.
