The soil is more than just a substrate that anchors crops in place. An ecologically balanced soil system is essential for maintaining healthy crops. Hands-On Agronomy is a comprehensive manual on effective soil fertility management providing many on-farm examples to illustrate the various principles and how to use them. The function of micronutrients, earthworms, soil drainage, tilth, soil structure, and organic matter is explained in thorough detail.
Neal Kinsey demonstrates that working with the soil produces healthier crops with a higher yield. To that end, he provides an understanding of eco-agriculture as a viable enterprise that is both naturally and commercially sustainable. This work offers advice that is both highly valuable and applicable to the farmer of any level and promotes an ecological understanding of the farm from the ground up.

Listen to Neal Kinsey
In this Tractor Time podcast episode, Neal Kinsey delivers his talk at the 1993 Eco-Ag Conference about his book, Hands-On Agronomy. As a special treat, listen for the voice of Acres U.S.A. founder Charles Walters introducing him.
I’ve been using ‘Hands on Agronomy’ as reference guide on our farm for many years, I recently purchase it for a graduation gift for my son who graduated from a four year college majoring in agronomy. I have given this book as a gift to many of my friends.
I'm not a Kinsey follower, and I think the base saturation approach is way oversold. That being said, I found it full of really good info and it is definitely worth having in your library.
Very useful. Neal is my soil consultant of choice. I enjoy/learn from reading his book and I gain from listening to Neal on his seminar CD’s. First copy I purchased is well worn, this purchase is my second.
